Frozen Pipes Cause Water Damage to Harwinton, CT Home

The most common call that we receive during the winter is from home owners who have had the pipes freeze, and subsequently burst. This causes significant water damage to the home. Often, the pipe that has frozen is in a less frequented area of the home, such as a garage or bonus room, and not always noticed by the home owner. 

In this home, the family was away for a week and the pipes burst while the home was vacant. The floors, walls and carpeting were damaged. If you are planning a trip this winter, we recommend that you take a few steps prior to leaving to protect yourself from water damage. 

1. Have your oil burner serviced to make sure it is in good working order.

2. Have your oil tank filled prior to leaving on your trip.

3. Ask a friend or neighbor to check on your home daily if the temperature drops below 20 degrees.
